Darryl Craig Sewap, who pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing death following a house fire where a girl, 10, died, has been given a sentence of 18 months in jail. With credit for time already served, Sewap has three months left on the sentence.
The house fire took place almost a year ago at Pelican Narrows. According to family members, Denasia Sewap-Highway originally escaped the fire, but thought her great-grandfather was still inside and went back to look for him.
Darryl Craig Sewap was 19 years-old at the time of the fire. He was also charged with arson but that charge was withdrawn as the case went through the courts.
As part of his sentence, Sewap will also be on probation for one year.
