Thirteen people, most of them school children, were taken to hospital after a van crashed near Mossbank, Sask. on Wednesday morning.

It happened at 8 a.m. CST on Highway 2, about 21 kilometres northeast of the village, the RCMP said.

A 15-passenger van carrying 12 people as well as a driver went into the ditch and hit an embankment.

The van was towing a trailer that swung around and hit the vehicle, RCMP spokeswoman Carole Raymond said

The passengers were taken to hospitals in Moose Jaw and Gravelbourg with what police said were minor injuries.

Police said they're investigating the cause but said the stretch of highway was icy at the time of the collision. The van was headed to Winnipeg for a school outing, the RCMP said.

Police did not release any information about which school or community the group was from.

Mossbank is about 70 kilometres southwest of Moose Jaw.
