A 12-year-old boy from southeast Saskatchewan has been killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident.
Colton Lee Golling died Thursday.
The accident happened near the small community of Grayson, about 60 kilometres south of Melville.
According to the RCMP, a preliminary investigation shows the boy had been driving on a grid road, lost control of the ATV and tumbled down an embankment into a slough. He was killed when the ATV rolled on top of him.
The boy, who had been wearing a helmet, had been alone at the time. He was later found by his parents.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Brent Lewis said such accidents are preventable.
"Just common sense … wear a helmet when you're driving them," he said. "Drive them safely and appropriately."
Also, a driver's licence is required for anyone using a vehicle on a public roadway, he said.
According to Lewis, police in the area are embarking on a public information campaign to promote safe ATV riding.
