Report says "Canadian Caper' a CIA affair
The so-called "Canadian Caper" in Iran in 1980 was in fact a CIA operation, according to a report on The National.
It was one of the proudest moments in Canadian history, and a highlight of relations between Canada and the United States.
Canadian diplomats, including ambassador Ken Taylor, were praised for their efforts after six U.S. diplomats were rescued from Tehran during a hostage crisis.
Taylor now confirms the CIA organized the rescue of the diplomats who were hiding in the Canadian embassy.
Taylor's statements repeat what former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said about the operation in 1986.
