Prospective home buyers are not the only ones battling it out in bidding wars across Canada — increasingly, those looking to rent are upping the ante and fighting hard for the ideal, if impermanent, home.

The average price for an apartment in Vancouver is $1,237. In Toronto, a renter will pay just over $1,100 for a similar place. But in Quebec, your rent money goes a lot further. The average apartment is available for just $684.
