Quebec Liberal Leader Jean Charest is trying to appeal to hockey-loving voters with a warning as the election campaign winds down.

Charest is warning that a Parti Québécois government could hurt the chances of the Nordiques hockey team returning to Quebec City.

He says the NHL would be turned off by the political and economic instability brought on by a PQ government.

Charest says government alone can't bring NHL hockey back to the Quebec capital.

Charest is campaigning in the Quebec City region today, urging voters to think carefully before choosing the PQ or the new Coalition for Quebec's Future.

Quebec City has announced plans to build a $400-million arena in the hopes of luring back an NHL team.

The province and Quebec City have pledged millions in taxpayer money for the project.

The provincial election is on Tuesday.
