Coalition Avenir Québec Leader François Legault said he is ready to negotiate with union organizations to dampen the impact of the proposed changes his party would bring if it won the election on Sept. 4.

Legault said he would be willing to negotiate the changes with unions and financially compensate them for the loss of dues if the CAQ slashed 7,000 positions in the public sector and Hydro-Québec.

"It would be peanuts compared to the money we could make," said Legault to Le Soleil newspaper.

Liberal Party Leader Jean Charest said Legault's plan is "arrogant."

"Where is he going to cut? How is he going to cut? Who will he cut? He won't say it until [the vote...] But, it doesn't matter because, in the case of unions, it's not a big deal. They can be bought out like peanuts," said Charest. "Peanuts are only worth a few million dollars."

At a campaign stop near Trois-Rivières's Grand Prix tracks on Saturday, Legault reiterated his desire for a majority CAQ government.

The CAQ leader once again told the crowd he believes his party is the only one that could clean up corruption in Quebec's government.

He also urged anglophones and allophones to vote for his party because they "are taken for granted" by other parties.
