Groulx is just north of Laval in the North Shore part of the greater Montreal area. It is part of Quebec's Laurentians region but is a mostly urban riding, comprising the cities of Boisbriand, Rosemere and Sainte-Thérèse.

The riding was created in 1980 and gained an L-shaped portion of the riding of Blainville in the 2011 redistricting.
