Prince Edward Island was recognized not just for its shellfish, but the ability to go out and see where it is produced. (CP)

One of the world's top restaurant review websites has named P.E.I. on a list of eight dining getaway location in the world.

The top eight list includes off-the beaten track locations all over the world, from Cornwall, England, to Vieques, Puerto Rico, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. P.E.I. was the only locations named in Canada.

Charlottetown chef Jeff McCourt noted the Island got high marks for its fresh seafood as well as the opportunities to see where it's harvested.

"It's about experience," said McCourt.

"It's not just enough to go out and eat in a restaurant. They can go out and shuck oysters and eat them right in the oyster bed."

McCourt said the Zagat list is generating a lot of talk on social media.
