World record coin effort cancelled
P.E.I.'s Heart and Stroke Foundation has called off its effort to set a world record for the longest line of coins.
In May the foundation announced a plan, called Quarter Magic, to gather 3.4 million quarters and line them up at Charlottetown's Eastlink Centre. The line would be 80 kilometres long and be worth $850,000.
The event was scheduled for Nov. 22, but foundation CEO Charlotte Comrie said it became clear the goal would not be reached.
"After four weeks of having the event out in the public and of soliciting funds we found that our ability to generate revenue as we had projected was not possible," said Comrie.
She said the decision to cancel was made in early July.
The foundation had planned to use the money for a three-year P.E.I. stroke education campaign.
