A Lennox Island woman who was injured after being hit by a tractor-trailer on Saturday night is in stable condition and has been moved from the intensive care unit, says the band's chief.

The woman, 28, was hit at about 11:30 p.m., near the John Deere dealership in Bloomfield Corner, said RCMP.

She was transported to the Prince County Hospital in Summerside and was then airlifted to the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax.

The woman is having surgery on her injured leg and is expected to fully recover, said Lennox Island Chief Matilda Ramjattan.

The woman's family is pleased how well she is doing, said Ramjattan.

The driver of the truck was not injured.
