Wayne Hambly appointed to Order of Canada
Honoured for business, volunteer, cultural contributions
Charlottetown businessman Wayne Hambly has been appointed to the Order of Canada.
Hambly is being recognized for his contributions in business, the voluntary community and cultural sectors.
The well-known businessman also chairs the board of the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
He says he had no idea the honour was coming when he received the call.
"We were, with the Confederation Centre, dealing with the governor general's office back in the winter before [David Johnston's] visit to the centre last week. I'd had a couple of calls from the governor's general's office and a lady there said, 'Congratulations. You're being invited to join the Order of Canada.' I thought, 'What? Is that me?'"
Hambly is one of 86 appointments to the Order of Canada which also includes astronaut Chris Hadfield and CBC humourist Rick Mercer.
He will be officially invested at a ceremony in Ottawa at a date yet to be announced.
