Volunteer cruise ship greeters sought
The Charlottetown Harbour Authority could use some extra volunteer cruise ship greeters this summer.
This summer's cruise ship season is much busier than in previous years, with 15 visits in July and August. There were just four visits last year in the peak summer months. The fall months will also be busy, with 41 scheduled visits.
That means more demand for the volunteer greeters, known as cruise ship ambassadors. Dana Taylor has been a cruise ship ambassador for three years.
"I think it's a bit of a dilemma with trying to get enough scheduled volunteers but it's working out," said Taylor.
"We usually have three to four on per shift. And you don't have to be a historian or anything. All you have to do is like people."
Ambassadors answer questions and pass out information about local attractions. Taylor said the tourists really appreciate the effort. Anyone interested in helping out can contact the Charlottetown Harbour Authority.
