Although Maritime Electric is making progress restoring power across P.E.I. after this week's major snow and freezing rain storm, a Valleyfield man and his neighbour have been without electricity since early Monday morning.

Earlier Thursday the utility was reporting it was down to just 59 customers without power, mostly scattered outages. But a new outage in O'Leary brought the number back up to 177.

Justin Simard and his neighbour have been without electricity since 2:45 a.m. Monday — more than 80 hours.

Simard and his fiancée had had enough by Tuesday.

"So it's just our two houses that are on that one line. And I'm sure that why it has taken so long, is that it's just these two houses on the line and the Settlement Road had quite a few trees down," said Simard.

"Honestly we abandoned ship two days ago. We went up to my future in-laws place just on the Iona Road where they had power just because we needed to have a hot shower. We've been going back just to keep the wood fire going."

Crews were removing downed trees from the area Thursday, said Simard.

He has been told his power should be back on by Thursday evening.
