UPEI president Alaa Abd-El-Aziz says the university is trying to improve recruitment.

The Charlottetown-based University of Prince Edward Island is putting together a plan to begin offering courses in Summerside.

A university spokesperson said there won’t be a separate campus in Summerside, rather courses could be conducted on Holland College’s campus.

UPEI president Alaa Abd-El-Aziz said the university is trying to improve recruitment and reach out to students across the Island.

"I think we have been working for the past number of months on what we can do to attract more students to come to UPEI," he said.

"We work very closely with Holland College and Collège Acadie to attract more students to come to post-secondary education in general, not just in the west or in the east but everywhere on the Island, to be engaged in post-secondary education."
