Tyne Valley struggles with loss of doctor
The MLA for Tyne Valley is telling patients of Dr. Joyce Madigane to register with the Health PEI patient registry.
Madigane, a fixture in the western P.E.I. medical community for almost 40 years, died earlier this month.
MLA Paula Biggar said she delayed discussing what Madigane's patients should do out of respect for the Madigane family. She wanted to wait until the funeral service was held. She put a message on her Facebook page this week directed to Madigane's patients.
"During this time of transition and recruitment process, please contact the patient registry to register your name as a former patient of Dr Madigane," Biggar wrote.
"Health PEI will compile the list of names to refer to new Doctor once that process has been completed."
Biggar said a locum has been in to help Dr. Ihab Abdelmalek, the other physician serving Tyne Valley.
Health PEI is now searching for a full time replacement.
