Thousands of motorcyclists hit Summerside
Atlanticade 2014 expected to be huge boost for Island economy
The roar of motorcycles will be a familiar sound over the next few days in Summerside, as thousands of bikers attend the Atlanticade Motorcycle Festival, one of the premier gatherings of motorcycle enthusiasts in Canada.
Event chair Dale Hicks said it's a major boost to the local economy.
"Well certainly there will be a couple of million dollars worth," said Hicks.
"You know, there is an impact certainly for the Island. Sixty-five per cent of the participants will be from off-Island."
Atlanticade, which runs June 27 to July 1, includes entertainment, lobster suppers, a freedom tour, a rally, buskers and even a burn-out competition.
Confederation Bridge officials are advising motorists that a large contingent of motorcycles participating in Atlanticade will be crossing the bridge between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on June 28. They say delays are expected during this time.
