Sword-wielder John Robert Long gets 2.5 years in jail
Long brandished a sword during an RCMP drug bust in January
RCMP had conducted surveillance of Long's home for four weeks after receiving tips he was selling drugs from the residence.
When RCMP officers showed up at Long's residence on January 11 to conduct a search warrant, he confronted them with a sword.
The police arrested him without injury to anyone.
Long, 44, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 months in jail for assaulting the officers and for possession of dangerous weapons.
Police seized six swords and three daggers from Long's home.
They also seized prescription drugs and approximately 1.8 kg of marijuana with a total value of about $13,000. They also seized about $11,000 in cash, computers, cellphones and other drug paraphernalia.
The judge also ordered Long to provide a sample for the National DNA databank.
He is also banned from possessing weapons for life.
