Summerside Fire Department has busy night
The Summerside Fire Department had to struggle through the worst blizzard of the season to respond to 10 calls Wednesday night.
Fire Chief Jim Peters told CBC News that Wednesday was the busiest night he can recall. Crews stayed throughout the night at the fire hall. Some calls were minor, but others were more serious.
At about 10:30 p.m. a call came in for a fire at a residential home. Peters said the family is now safe in a hotel, but getting to the scene wasn't easy.
"We pretty much couldn't move without a plow in front of us," said Peters.
"The plows were busy, taking us from area to another. There was a lot of snow in the yards, yes. Crews are a bit tired. You know, we were going all evening. Things kind of settled down around 1:30 a.m."
Peters says there was also a furnace malfunction at one home, where a family had to be taken out and put in a hotel, as well.
He said the crew is still at the fire hall in case more calls come in.
