The decision to allow the Summerside Community Church to move to the industrial park was made Monday night by Summerside City Council.
It took 16 months for the congregation to get permission to take over the abandoned building after filing a rezoning application. Rezoning was a sticking point for councillors, who at first refused the application.
Coun. Cory Thomas says a new rezoning agreement with the church has satisfied both sides.
"With the restricted use, I think that will alleviate some concerns that were had, should the church ever sell the property, that it revert back to the old zone that it was. The committee recommended it, so the council unanimously supported it."
People opposed to the agreement can still have their say during a 21-day appeal period.
