Property owners in Stratford, P.E.I. will soon be able to easily trace back who owned their land hundreds of years ago.
Town officials have called for proposals from consultants interested in researching and producing land ownership maps from the first English land grants up to the period covered in the 1880 Meacham's Atlas.
"The purpose is to map the history of Stratford," said Mike Farmer, a former Stratford mayor and a current member of the town's heritage committee.
"We are going to begin back in the 1700s ... and take that through in probably four or five maps at 10, 20, 30 year intervals, up to 1880: who the owners were, what the property looked like."
Farmer said the project may involve several phases over a few years. The town is hoping to hear from residents who may already have information about their own properties.
Tenders for the project close Sept. 5.
