There are still a lot of questions about the folk festival to be answered, says Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. (CBC)Charlottetown city council voted Monday night to discuss the idea of holding a folk festival in Victoria Park, but Mayor Clifford Lee said the city is far from approving it.
The vote split council, requiring a tie-breaking vote from Lee to pass the resolution, and continue discussions with Malpeque Folk Fest Inc. Lee said there are still a number of concerns: including fencing, the number of people allowable on the property, and damages to the land.
"This is by no means a done deal. I think council has some real concerns here," he said.
"It's going to be a fine line as to whether this thing moves forward or not."
Lee said the event was originally proposed for Old Home Week, and described that as a non-starter. The city is already busy that week, he said, and there is no point in holding another event at the same time when there are no accommodations for the people who would like to attend.
The issue is expected to go back to council for another vote within the next couple of months. Organizers of the folk festival want the event to take place during the summer of 2014.
