Janelle MacMillan, 23, is a St. Thomas University student from Charlottetown. (Facebook)A young Island woman says she has a busy two months ahead of her as she prepares to represent the Maritimes at the Miss World Canada pageant.
Janelle MacMillan, 23, is a St. Thomas University student from Charlottetown.
She said she was hesitant at first about signing up, but says she realized the competition is more than a beauty pageant.
"They are not concerned with my beauty, you know, all the emails that I get from them and all the advice and all the training that I'm going through, none of it is focused on my hair or my makeup. It's all completely on my charity work, my public speaking, my poise, the way I present myself. It really has like no point on my outward appearance," she said.
MacMillan said on top of her public speaking training, she also has to raise $5,000 for a children's charity.
The competition takes place in May.
