Separating the roles of Opposition leader and interim party leader will be good for Progressive Conservatives on P.E.I. as the party rebuilds, says MLA Hal Perry.

Perry was voted leader of the Opposition by the PC caucus on Wednesday, but lost a vote of caucus and the party executive Thursday to be named interim leader. Both positions became available with the resignation of Olive Crane.

Crane had wanted to stay on as Opposition leader when she resigned as party leader in December. Perry had supported her in that, and he told CBC News Thursday night after the interim leader vote he remains consistent in his belief that two people can successfully lead in their respective roles.

He suggested it's an ideal situation as the party rebuilds itself because there are now two leaders with influence within the party from opposite ends of the Island.

Perry said he had no intention of giving up the Opposition leader position so Myers can have both.
