A P.E.I. woman was sentenced in provincial court in Charlottetown Friday to 14 months in jail for stealing money from the hair salon that employed her.

Shelley Annette Taylor was found guilty in November of theft and fraud over a two-year span while working at Urban Rootz Hair Studio. She wrote cheques to herself and falsified business records.

In addition to the jail time, Taylor will be on probation for two years. She was also ordered to pay $16,000 restitution.

This is Taylor's second conviction for stealing from an employer. In 2004, when she was known as Shelly Dixon, she pleaded guilty to embezzling $193,000 from the Montague Credit Union. She had worked as a teller there for 13 years.

She was sentenced to 15 months of house arrest for that offence.
