The Town of Cornwall, P.E.I. is renting out a small section of wooded land behind the Terry Fox Sports Complex for a new rope climbing and zip-line park.

The park will take up about half a hectare, and owner Mike Corney said the operation will be about as environmentally friendly as you can get.

"We're not burning any fossil fuels or running any electricity or anything," said Corney.

"You're going on cables and ropes, and if worst comes to worst and we have to tear the thing down, we'll just pull the poles out of the ground and walk away. And you'd hardly ever know that we were here."

Corney will pay $3,000 a year to the town for the land rental. The new park won't disrupt any of the current activities at the sports complex.

Cornwall deputy mayor Corey Frizzell said he was keen on the project once he saw the town would not carry any liability.

"There's nothing there right now so it's really not bringing in any revenue," he said.

"It's not costing the town anything so it's a great project for both organizations."

Launching the park will cost about $100,000. Corney is being helped out with loans and loan guarantees from the ACOA and the provincial government.

Rise and Climb Adventure should be ready to go by late May or June, and if it goes well Corney hopes to expand the park even further into the woods next year.
