The body of a Kinkora man who had been missing since Wednesday morning was found on Thursday, said RCMP.

Justin Brad Hunter, 32, was last seen around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, RCMP say. He had been dropped off at his home after a night out with friends.

His car, a 2007 grey Mazda 6, was discovered at 3 p.m. Wednesday by a trucker travelling along Route 225, 1.5 kilometres west of Kinkora. The vehicle had gone down an embankment and landed on its roof.

A police dog and its handler found Hunter's body about 300 metres from the overturned car.

"We concentrated our search efforts in and around that area and within an hour the dog had located the subject deceased in the woods," said RCMP Cpl. Scott Stevenson.

"Unfortunately, not the conclusion that anybody was looking for but at least we're able to bring some closure to the family."

The only signs of the driver were a set of footprints circling the vehicle. Those tracks had since been obliterated by blowing snow.

A group of 30 volunteers, working in teams of three, searched an area within two kilometres of where the car was found. They have been probing the snow-covered ditches that line both sides of the highway with thin metal poles.

An RCMP helicopter from Moncton used thermal-sensing equipment to search a wider area.

Hunter lived with his fiancée at an apartment in Kinkora, while his family lives in Borden-Carleton.
