3 charged in 30 cottage break-ins

RCMP on P.E.I. have charged three people in connection with a rash of cottage break-ins and thefts in November.
Stolen property worth tens of thousands of dollars has been recovered, says RCMP Sgt. Andrew Blackadar. (CBC)Police began the investigation after they noticed a spike in the number of these crimes in the North Shore area. They say there were more than 30 incidents.
On Sunday, police arrested a 43-year-old man and 41-year-old woman from Rusticoville, and on Monday a 23-year-old Charlottetown man.
The Rusticoville man has been charged with 24 counts of break, enter and theft, and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Dec. 17. The other man and woman also face numerous break, enter and theft charges.
RCMP Sgt. Andrew Blackadar said police searched the couple's home in Rusticoville Monday.
"During that search the RCMP were able to recover tens of thousands of dollars worth of stolen property, including electronics, televisions, heaters, some very expensive art, some carvings, a number of very high priced items," said Blackadar.
"At this point we are in the process of contacting all the owners of the recovered stolen property to let them know what we have."
He said the thefts occurred in Rustico, Cavendish and Stanley Bridge.
