A fundraiser raising money for the Island's biggest hospital had people buying up bags of mussels in a Canadian Tire parking lot on Saturday.
The Dockendorff family and the "Friends of the Mussel King" donated mussels to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation. In turn, they're selling the mussels for $3 a bag.
Foundation spokeswoman MaryEllen Hughes said the response has been outstanding.
"This event is in the honour of the late Russell Dockendorff. He was a very generous donor to our hospital and a very good friend of the foundation. So his daughter Esther Dockendorff has, in his memory, started this event to continue to give back to the community in his memory," Hughes said.
The goal is to raise $10,000 for the stroke care unit. The hospital said the money will go a long way in improving stroke care facilities on P.E.I.
This is the fourth year the mussel sale has raised money for the hospital.
