It is time for the P.E.I. government to make it clear how money paid to companies through the Provincial Nominee Program helped create jobs and advance the economy, says NDP Leader Mike Redmond.
Islanders deserve more details about how immigrant investment money from PNP was spent, says NDP Leader Mike Redmond. (CBC)At a news conference Monday morning, Redmond noted that since the fall of 2007 PNP applicant companies have been required to submit a business plan and a detailed explanation of how they would spend immigrant investment money.
Redmond said Islanders deserve to know those details.
"What we are all asking government to do is put it on the table," he said.
"People need to see if you are open and transparent, and that is what you profess to be as a government, show us that."
Redmond was also asking for more details about the 100 companies identified only by numbers on a recently released list of companies that received money through the immigrant partner section of PNP.
"Let's have an open debate with both the Conservatives and Liberals and let's put an end to the PNP file once and for all," he said.
"If there is nothing to hide then put it on the table."
Redmond claims some of the numbered companies have ties to the Liberal party. He believes there has been a "conspiracy of silence" lately from both the Liberals and Conservatives lately on the PNP file. The program has barely been mentioned in the current session of the Legislature.
