Man arrested for late-night assault

A 23-year-old man from New Glasgow, P.E.I. faces a charge of aggravated assault after an incident on Kent St. in Charlottetown early Saturday morning.
An arrest for the assault was made Sunday, says Charlottetown deputy police chief Gary McGuigan. (CBC)Police say a 44-year-old Charlottetown man was punched in the head. He was first taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and then transported by ambulance to hospital in Moncton.
Charlottetown deputy police chief Gary McGuigan told CBC News an arrest was made Sunday.
"The accused has been charged with aggravated assault. We haven't set a court date yet but he will be appearing in court at a later date," Said McGuigan.
"The injuries occurred from what we have gathered so far in the investigation... it appears that the victim was punched by the accused. The last update we had was that he is currently in Moncton in critical care suffering from head trauma."
The accused has been released from custody, but with conditions.
