Truck driver hit with impaired driving charge

Police have charged the driver of a tractor-trailer with impaired driving after pulling him off Charlottetown's arterial highway on Thursday.
RCMP were responding to a complaint from the public. They pulled over the 65-year-old driver from the Montague area just before 1 p.m. The truck was heading west, coming from Rollo Bay.
Police said his breathalyzer test reading was significantly over the legal limit. His case will be in Charlottetown provincial court Jan. 14.
Charges laid after car goes into ditch
RCMP also laid impaired driving charges against a 70-year-old Island man who drove his car into the ditch on Myers Road near New Glasgow in central P.E.I.
The man has 10 previous impaired driving convictions, said RCMP, dating from 1986 to 2004.
The local fire department was first on the scene and found the man trying to move his vehicle. A volunteer firefighter removed the keys from the car and the man ran away.
RCMP located him a short distance away in a wooded area. He has been charged with impaired driving and failure to provide breath samples.
He will also appear in court on Jan. 14.
