The unemployment rate was up in October on P.E.I., despite the creation of more jobs in the provincial economy.

The unemployment rate rose to 11.7 per cent from 11.2. That rate matches a year-long high that the province hit in August.

The rate was up because more people joined the workforce. The number of jobs in the economy rose to 72,400.

While there has been a lot of fluctuation in the P.E.I. job market in the last year, the overall trend has been relatively flat.
