P.E.I. Health officials have secured some flu vaccine not affected by a recent review.

The province stopped using Fluad and Agriflu after some problems with the vaccines were reported in Europe. Health Canada is reviewing the vaccines.

Vaccination clinics were cancelled, but some alternative vaccines have been obtained from Nova Scotia, and some clinics will resume Wednesday.

"We have been able to secure 5,000 doses of flu-viral," said chief health officer Dr. Heather Morrison.

"We will be able to then run the clinics … in public health nursing offices for seniors, the six- to 59-month olds, pregnant women and their household contacts, and also give some of that vaccine to obstetrician offices as well."

The Health Canada review of Fluad and Agriflu is expected to be complete by the end of the week, and the hold on distribution lifted.

Morrison says if that doesn't happen the province can get 10,000 to 12,000 more doses of alternative vaccine before the end of the week. P.E.I. had ordered a total of 51,000 doses of vaccine for this year.
