$4M already spent on Trans-Canada project

A plan to realign the Trans-Canada Highway west of Charlottetown has already cost $4.1 million, says the P.E.I. government’s chief engineer.
The Department of Transportation is waiting for a final decision on the environmental assessment before it begins construction, but chief engineer Steven Yeo said the government already has a significant investment in the project.
“Most of the land is purchased. We have projected the total cost of that is going to be in the $4 million range. The studies that we have paid for the consultant to complete the environmental assessment, that money is spent,” said Yeo.
“Yes there will be a cost, probably in the $4.1 million range.“
The plan to straighten the highway around Bonshaw has faced considerable opposition. There have been protests at Province House, and those opposed to the project are planning other actions should construction start.
