Robert Benoit is organizing another food drive in Kings County. (CBC)A daycare in Montague, P.E.I. has done some special fundraising this year to support Robert Benoit's 'Fill the Van' food drive.
For the third year in a row, Benoit is driving around the eastern part of the province gathering food for the Kings County Food Bank.
"He's just doing a great thing for the community and we try to support him every year," said Gerry Foote, co-owner of the Appleseed Child Care Centre. "It's not a huge amount, but every little bit helps, and that's kind of what we're striving for, and hopefully next year we can do better."
The Appleseed Child Care Centre has been collecting cans and beverage containers for months. Foote says so far, they're donating $60 from 1,200 containers, and they're still counting.
In the last three years, Robert Benoit has been able to bring in 3,500 kilograms of food for the Kings County Food Bank.
This year he's driving a half ton truck to collect the food. Benoit expects he'll still be picking up food Saturday.
Staff at Belle's Boutique in Montague have also been helping collect donations for Benoit's drive.
Premier Robert Ghiz is expected to make a donation, and other politicians, including opposition leader Olive Crane, will be volunteering to help unload some of the donated food.
