The Department of Fisheries and Ocean has reopened Tracadie Bay for shellfish harvesting.

Environment Canada made the recommendation to DFO based on water quality and shellfish test results.

The entire eastern end of P.E.I. was closed to harvesting oysters, mussels, clams and quahogs on Sept. 11 following a heavy rainfall. The federal government was concerned runoff from the shore had contaminated the water.

The rest of the eastern P.E.I. coastline remains under the shellfishing ban. That area is from Hillsborough Bay on the south shore to Dalvay on the north shore and extends three kilometres off the coastline.
