Snow removal budget boosted in Summerside

The snow removal budget for the city of Summerside has increased for this coming winter by more than 40 per cent.
The move is designed to address a number of concerns in recent years from people living in some of the outlying areas of the city.
Bruce MacDougall, deputy mayor and a councillor who represents one of the affected areas, said snow removal has been a problem for a while.
“This is not just something that you got one or two calls about. This has been an issue of mine and other outlying councillors for a number of years,” he said.
Major snow storms have meant a slowdown in how long it takes to clear roads in some areas, MacDougall said.
“So we decided to put on an extra plow this year, and it's going to cost a little more money but it is going to bring the service level up too.”
The extra cost to the city is about $50,000 a year.
