The University of Prince Edward Island is asking students, faculty and staff for suggestions on how to improve the university.

They are being asked to submit their ideas online to the Dare to Dream campaign until Oct. 5.

After that, a university committee will review the submissions and file an action plan to the university.

Tim Ogilvie, a UPEI professor and co-chair of the organizing committee, says he believes everyone will be encouraged by the campaign.

“I think it is part of the consensus building, collection process where we do make faculty, staff, students and alumni aware that they do have a role to play in the continued success of the university,” Ogilvie said.

“I think that makes them feel good. I'm not saying that this process is the be all and the end all, but it does provide opportunities for faculty, staff and students to know that they can make a difference and put their ideas in.”

Some of the questions people should consider are:

• What kind of UPEI do you want in five years time?
• How can UPEI continue to improve the student experience the university offers?
• How can UPEI best serve the province?

Kate VanGervan, UPEI’s student union president, says the suggestions could be anything from adding showers to the soccer change rooms to implementing new programs.

“I'm really encouraged about what's been going on so far and I really do think that this is an actual time for change and I think that a lot of these ideas if they fit with the strengths of UPEI now, then I think there's a great likelihood that they will come into effect,” VanGervan said.
