Environment Canada has recommended closing shellfishing all along the southeast coast of P.E.I. after heavy rainfall on Wednesday.

Shellfish from Pownal Point, east of Charlottetown, to Burnt Point, near Georgetown, may be contaminated because of runoff from the rain. The closed area includes all of Murray Harbour.

Some parts of that coastline received more than 100 mm of rain.

The areas will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time.
