RCMP in Eastern P.E.I. say they are cracking down on public intoxication at a popular beach.

Police say too many people are drinking on the beach at Basin Head Provincial Park, near Souris, and becoming rowdy.

Many people have been taken to jail to sober up, they say.

Officers have set up checkpoints in the area to control the problem.

The fine for open liquor on a beach is $220.
