Tools worth $3,000 were stolen from a P.E.I. Habitat for Humanity home being built for the family of the lone survivor of a murder-suicide where four young people were killed in Alberta last December.

The tools belong to Shayna Conway's father, Scott, who is a carpenter from Ontario helping with the build in Mermaid, P.E.I.

His trailer full of construction-grade tools was broken into Wednesday night and all of the tools taken.

Susan Zambonin, executive director of Habitat for Humanity, is asking for the public's help to locate the thieves.

"We're asking people to keep their eyes open, and if they hear anything about it, because we had tools stolen two years ago and some of them were returned," she said.

"We're trying to see if we can get this message out there fast enough that, before they get to the pawn shops and what not, that maybe we can get them recovered for him."

In February, Habitat for Humanity chose Conway's family for a new house. It was an anonymous process, with Habitat's judges not knowing the family's identity or connection to the tragedy in Alberta.

In a release, Habitat for Humanity said the build for Conway and her family will continue, as scheduled, beginning July 28.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers or the Stratford office of the RCMP.
