Island sprinter Jared Connaughton has been named a co-captain for Canada's Track and Field team for the Olympic Games in London.
Every team member votes for their captain.
Athletics Canada says Connaughton shares the honour with Jim Steacy, a hammerthrower from Alberta, and fellow runners Jessica Zelinka and Nathan Brannen from Ontario.
The primary role of the captains is to provide support and guidance for team members.
Athletics Canada says Connaughton is a perfect mentor as this is his second Olympic experience.
He arrived at the Olympic Village earlier this week.
Connaughton will run in the 200 metre sprint in London, and he could also run in the men's relay.
Best wishes for the 27-year-old are being put in a book in New Haven, along with the Town of Cornwall.
It will be given to Connaughton's parents, Neal and Susan, when they travel to London on Aug. 3.
"A resident had contacted me and thought it would be a good idea if the town did this. I immediately thought it was a great idea. I'd been trying to think of ways to show the Connaughtons that we're behind them 100 per cent," said Corey Frizzell, Cornwall's deputy mayor.
The book will be available beginning today until Aug. 2 at Cornwall's Town Hall.
