A child died after being hit by a pickup truck at the Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge Sunday. (Denis Calnan/CBC)A Nova Scotian child has died after being hit by a vehicle at the Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge in P.E.I., RCMP confirmed.
One of the race participants was driving from the track to the camping area in his pickup truck when he hit a three-year-old boy walking a bicycle around 1 p.m
The driver did not see the child.
"[He] was only going slow at the time, but the nature of the truck being so high at the time, he just didn't see the young male. He had just come to park his truck and he didn't know what had happened until after it had happened," said Kevin Power, the owner-operator of Raceway Park.
The child was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The 28-year-old Nova Scotian male driver and the child were known to each other, according to RCMP.
The name of the victim is being withheld until all next of kin is notified.
"We're still investigating at this time, but it doesn't appear at this time that speed was a factor, but a tragic accident," Sgt. Leanne Butler told CBC News.
The investigation is ongoing, Butler said.
