Margaret McEachern of Cavendish, P.E.I. weaves her candidate for the official MacEachern clan tartan. (Julia Cook/CBC)A Prince Edward Island woman is one of five weavers from around the world whose design could be picked to be the official tartan of the MacEachern clan.
The MacEachern clan history goes back 1,500 years, but it has never had its own tartan. Tartans to represent clans are a relatively new development, dating back to Victorian times.
Margaret McEachern of Cavendish, P.E.I. is up against weavers from Quebec, Colorado and Australia.
McEachern hopes her design for the clan tartan will be the chosen one. (Margaret McEachern)"There's two tartans that are sort of neck and neck. Right now, I am in the lead, so I don't know whether or not I'll win it," said McEachern.
"It would be such an amazing honour to win, I mean family history has always been incredibly important to my family and it would just be such an honour to be able to say that the tartan that I designed is the tartan that our family will wear in the future."
Voting for the new tartan is taking place online. McEachern will find out if her design is chosen at the beginning of August.
