Veterinarians at Charlottetown's Atlantic Veterinary College have restored a starving bald eagle chick to health and returned it to its nest.
The parents came back shortly after the eaglet was returned to the nest, says Dr. Marion Desmarchelier. (Dr. Marion Desmarchelier)The eaglet was found by cottagers in the New London area on P.E.I.'s North Shore. Dr. Marion Desmarchelier said the eaglet either tried to fly away too early or simply fell out of its nest last Friday.
"The bird was really not in good condition," said Desmarchelier.
"The bird was starving and was very dehydrated. We saw that he had been eating pine needles and grass trying to get something to eat because he was really starving. After a few days, he was back on the normal weight, very active, actually aggressive to us, which is normal."
AVC staff returned the eaglet to its nest Monday morning. Soon after, its parents returned, Desmarchelier said.
