Nearly 60,000 people are expected to attend the Cavendish Beach Music Festival this weekend in P.E.I., but police say some minors are using fake identification to get into the beer tent.
"We don't know where that's coming from," said RCMP Cpl. Martin Roy. "It's the first time, as far as I know, at the festival that we've encountered so many cases."
This is the fourth year of the country music festival. Event organizers said security was keeping a close eye on everyone trying to enter the beer gardens.
"It's a pretty popular place," said Kevin Meyer, President of the Meridian Entertainment Group. "We do our due diligence at the gate… Obviously we always catch some of those fake IDs and the good news is that we're catching them."
Roy said the IDs were of low quality and obvious to the officers. A dozen teens had been caught by Saturday afternoon, and they may pay a hefty price.
"There could be a provincial fine up to $1,000, and your licence revoked for three months," said Roy.
The RCMP said they will also be keeping a close eye on open liquor both at the grounds, and around Cavendish all weekend.
