With only one physician on P.E.I. specializing in rheumatology, The Arthritis Society is asking Islanders with the disease what they think about access to treatment.
The organization is asking Islanders with the disease to fill out a web survey about their experiences.
"We have several thousand people on our registry now, but we'd again love to have even more because again we already know there are 22,000 people living with arthritis here on PEI," said Susan Tilley-Russell, executive director of The Arthritis Society in the Atlantic region.
Tilley-Russell said the goal of the survey is to bring information to policy makers and government.
She said one in six people on P.E.I. has arthritis, one of the highest ratios in Canada.
The Canadian Rheumatology Association states that there should be one rheumatologist for every 70,000 people, said Tilley-Russell.
That means the Island should have at least two specialists.
