Mike Redmond looks over the collection of donations he's received for Community Sharing Day. (Laura Chapin/CBC)P.E.I. will celebrate its first ever Community Sharing Day Saturday.
Organizer Mike Redmond said people are welcome to look over the selection of donations he's received at Murphy's Community Centre in Charlottetown and take whatever they like, free of charge.
Donations such as musical instruments, sports equipment, books and toys have poured in, said Redmond, the manager of the centre. He said he's received a mix of new and second-hand items. Some businesses are donating services such as free haircuts, gardening lessons and bike repairs.
Redmond told the CBC's Laura Chapin that people struggle with the concept of free, but there's no catch, and no need to bring money or barter. Redmond said the day is about bringing people and businesses in the community together.
Redmond said he was inspired by the Really Really Free Market movement in North America.
Community Sharing Day runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at Murphy's Community Centre, Charlottetown.
