P.E.I.'s Opposition Progressive Conservatives want to know how Premier Robert Ghiz can justify a business class trip from India while making big cuts to the provincial budget.

Documents were tabled in the legislature Friday that showed Ghiz flew business class during the March mission to India while Innovation Minister Allen Roach flew economy.

Roach's flight cost a little more than $2,800; Ghiz's flight was more than double that at nearly $7500.

During question period Opposition House Leader Steven Myers accused Ghiz of flying first class and questioned the premier’s priorities.

"Clearly, the premier flew first class over to India," Myers said.

"Now, we're talking about people getting fired here all over Prince Edward Island, we're talking about having to bring in a tax to help pay for your mismanagement."

But Finance Minister Wes Sheridan told the house the trip was well worth it.

"This honorable premier, Madame Speaker, went over and brought 300 jobs back to Prince Edward Island," Sheridan said.

"Not another province in this country would not send their premier first class. However our premier does not do that."

The premier's office told CBC News, Ghiz flew economy class to India, but needed to fly business class back to Canada to prepare for meetings with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall.

The premier's office said the only seats left were in business class.
